Overview

By default, a device’s fully qualified domain name (FQDN)is not shown in the NIM console, but the display of this information can be enabled by editing a file through the Administration Tool.

Enable FQDN Display

From the Administration Tool:

  • Select Network Discovery – Advanced Options > Advanced Options
  • At the bottom of the page, select File Edit Mode
  • Add the following line

    ‘discover_sysname_strip_domain’ ‘off’
  • Click Save
  • Select Network Discovery > Discover My Network > Rewalk
  • Refresh the Console once the rewalk is complete

Once the rewalk has completed, refreshing the Console will show the FQDN for all discovered devices.

Note: a quicker option is to modify the hosts file to contain a single device, and then run a discovery by hosts file. A single device will be discovered and walked, after which the naming conventions will be applied to all devices. Once complete, return your hosts file to its previous state.
